Archived: Free Public Tour of SCSU Archaeological Dig Site
The public is invited to take a free tour of a unique archaeological site at Shoemaker Dorm on the St. Cloud State campus. Archaeology students are excavating the lawn looking for evidence of the 1850’s-era Lowertown community.
The work is a continuation of the excavation begun in 2004, and since then many 19th century domestic artifacts have been found including whiteware, china, glass, buttons and nails. A 2008 dig also uncovered a portion of a granite house foundation wall.
Tours, lasting approximately 45 minutes each, will be offered over the next few weeks. Persons interested in taking a tour should email Professor Debra Gold at dlgold@stcloudstate.edu with your name, the number of people in your party, and the day/time you would like to attend. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult.
The tours will be offered on Wed, 6/16 at 1:30 p.m.; Tues 6/22 at 10:00 a.m.; Wed, 6/23 at 1:30 p.m.; Tues, 6/29 at 10:00 a.m.; and Wed, 6/30 at 1:30 p.m.
