Archived: Grandmother Credits ‘Angel’ Rescuers in Crash

A Minnesota grandmother, plucked from an icy lake by three mystery men, says she doesn’t know who to thank. 71-year-old Kathleen Hansmann was driving home to
Wayzata Sunday when she hit an ice patch on Highway 22 near Richmond, slid off the road and onto a nearby lake, breaking some of the ice as her car flipped. She was unable to climb out of the vehicle as water began seeping in.

A woman stopped, called 911 and flagged down another car for help. Hansmann says three young men flew down the bank like angels, onto the lake, pulled her from the car and carried her to shore. Hansmann says she knows the outcome could have been much different if it weren’t for the help of strangers.
