Archived: Gunshot Victim Arrested By St. Cloud Police

St. Cloud police have updated a report of a man said to have been shot in the chest on University Drive South and 9th Ave South last Tuesday. Investigators have identified witnesses who saw the victim, Aaron Dante Moreno accidently shoot himself while riding in a vehicle. Upon locating the vehicle investigators began a search warrant, and inside they found a .22 caliber rifle which is believed to be the same firearm that Moreno used to shoot himself. Officers found Moreno with a single gunshot wound to his chest. After he called the police himself and told them he had been shot but provided no more information. He did not know the location he was shot at and could not tell police who shot him. Moreno has several prior felonies which include 3rd degree assault, second degree burglary and 3rd degree burglary and is not to possess any firearms. After being released from the St. Cloud hospital, Moreno was arrested of being a felon in possession of a firearm and taken to the Stearns County Jail.
