Former Stearns County Commissioner and Minnesota Representative Larry Haws is being recognized by Stearns County for his efforts on the Beaver Island Trail. Stearns County is recognizing Haws who was a founder of the trail.

In 1991, while Haws was the St. Cloud Park and Recreation Director, he helped establish one of the first Rails to Trails in Central Minnesota. The Beaver Island Trail was built on the former Tilestone Mill Railroad Spur. Haws also helped support the extension of the Beaver Island Trail from St. Cloud to Warner Lake County Park in Clearwater while he served as County Commissioner.
