Archived: Hearing Tonight on Regional Human Rights Office
Members of the public have a chance tonight to weigh in on the potential use of $70,000 in federal money to fund a regional human rights office. This, in the wake of public outcry after a Waite Park man posted anti-Muslim cartoons in various places around St. Cloud last December.
Earlier this month, Waite Park voted not to join the regional effort with St. Cloud. Last week, the city of St. Joseph approved the measure. Now, with St. Cloud and St. Joseph on board, the next step is to allow the use of Community Development Block Grant money to help fund the office. The grant program is run by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Tonight at 6:00, a public hearing will be held in the St. Cloud City Council Chambers. Anyone in the community can attend and voice their opinions.
