Hello Singers and Actors–Call for Auditions at St. Cloud State

Have you got a creative itch that needs scratching? Can you sing a good tune, or act with genuine spirit?

Then there’s an opportunity for you to audition for spring production of “Measure for Measure” at St. Cloud State University.

The production is described by theatre professor Jeffrey Bleam as one of Shakespeare’s most troubling comedies. He says it offers an unsettlingly parable about moral hypocrisy, sexual double standards and the treatment of women in a male-dominated society. Bleam adds the production will blend Shakespeare’s text with Cole Porter’s music in a mysterious nightclub somewhere between Mad Men and the MeToo movement.

Auditions are open to students, faculty/staff, and community members and will be held in the Performing Arts Center’s Arena Theatre from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21st and from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22nd.

You are asked to prepare a one-minute monologue from any Shakespeare play–it does not need to be memorized. Some roles may also have singing parts. You should prepare a one-minute a capella of a jazz standard such as Cole Porter, Ella Fitzgerald or Frank Sinatra.
