Archived: HIV Cases Up in Minnesota

The number of confirmed cases of HIV in the state of Minnesota is the highest seen in 17 years according to preliminary statistics released today by the Minnesota Department of Health. During 2009 368 new cases of HIV were reported in Minnesota.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 25 percent of that population living with HIV does not know they are infected. This means thousands of people in Minnesota may be unaware of their HIV status and potentially transmitting the virus to other people. These new statistics emphasize the importance of up-to-date and accurate information.
The Rural AIDS Action Network offers free and confidential AIDS and HIV testing at various locations across the state. You can visit RAAN’s website to schedule an appointment to be tested and learn more about HIV services in Greater Minnesota. You can also call 800-966-9735.
