Archived: HIV Rates Drop in Minnesota
Rural Aids Action Network (RAAN) says new HIV Infections rates in greater Minnesota have declined from 2010-2011 but the infection still remains a concern. Minnesota Department of Health reports that 292 confirmed new cases of HIV were reported in Minnesota in 2011. This is a 12 percent decline compared to 331 cases in 2010.
“A lower number of new HIV infections is always encouraging; but there is still a need for prevention and education about HIV” said RAAN Executive Director, Charles Hempeck. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates nearly 21% of the population living with HIV doesn’t know they are infected.
