Archived: Huskies Defeat NSU On Gridiron

St. Cloud State rolled to a 27-14 victory Saturday over Northern State University in an NSIC battle at Husky Stadium.

SCSU running back Brandon Geiss led the way on offense for the Huskies by gaining 115 yards on 13 carries. Mark Martin was outstanding for the St. Cloud defense, as he led the team with 12 tackles in the game.

St. Cloud State struck first with a Tyler Aldridge field goal to make the score 3-0 with 5:34 left in the first quarter. Eli Shoemaker’s 69-yard, second quarter touchdown reception made the score 10-0 with 14:00 left in the second quarter.

Northern State cut the lead to 10-7 on a Josh Aho TD reception but SCSU answered back with just :38 left in the first half, this time with Damon Treat, who made a couple nifty moves to find the end zone on a 19-yard completion.

Husky quarterback Phil Klaphake would add a rushing touchdown early in the second half to put the game out of reach. Klaphake would yield to backup QB Brad Meade for a majority of the half.

St. Cloud State improved their record to 4-1 on the season with the win. The Huskies are back in action on Saturday for a 1:00 pm contest against bitter rival MSU-Mankato. Pregame coverage on KVSC begins at 12:45.
