Archived: Huskies Win 7th in a Row

The St. Cloud State Huskies turned in a dominating performance for the Homecoming fans this past weekend. The Huskies were victorious over The University of Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles 49-6 at Husky Stadium. The Huskies fell behind 6-0 early, after an interception set up a short field for the Golden Eagles first touchdown. Huskies defensive back Tyler Niedfeldt had a career day, intercepting four passes. Niedfeldt was key in turning the momentum back in the Huskies favor after falling behind early. Philip Klaphake got the Huskies on the board on a one yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. Once the Huskies got the lead they never looked back.

Damon Treat scored on a 31 yard touchdown run to put the Huskies up 14-6 at the end of the first quarter. Saint Cloud continued its scoring onslaught, scoring on touchdown runs from Mike Walker, and Philip Klaphake, and also scoring on a Fred Williams seven yard touchdown reception. The Huskies finished the scoring when Tyler Niedfeldt returned his fourth interception of the game 32 yards for a touchdown to make the score 49-6.

The defense of the Huskies was very solid against the Golden Eagles, allowing only 148 total yards of offense, while forcing five turnovers in the game. Philip Klaphake led the Huskies offense with 235 total yards of offense and four combine touchdowns passing and running.

The Huskies will travel to Duluth next weekend to take on the Bulldogs of Minnesota-Duluth. The Bulldogs are ranked in the top five of the NCAA Division II football rankings.
