Archived: Husky Basketball Teams Post Matching Splits

The Husky men’s basketball team split a pair of road contests this weekend, defeating Upper Iowa on Saturday before falling against tenth-ranked Winona State on Saturday.

Saturday’s contest (box) saw the Huskies take down the Peacocks of Upper Iowa 74-68. The Huskies attempted 35 free throws in taking the victory. SCSU was led by Shaun Jensen, who had fifteen points and five assists. Theo Rothstein had ten points and a team-high seven rebounds.
On Sunday, St Cloud State visited  nationally-ranked Winona State and lost by a final score of 87-77. With the loss, the Huskies fell one game behind the Warriors for first place in the N-S-I-C. Shaun Jensen again led the Huskies in points on Saturday with 15.
St Cloud State’s record now stands at 11-2 overall and 7-2 in conference play. They hit the road once again this weekend for dates with Bemidji State and Minnesota-Duluth before returning home on January 20th against Crookston. 

 
The St Cloud State women’s basketball team mirrored the men’s team this weekend by splitting a pair of road games. The Huskies defeated Upper Iowa 73-70 on Saturday before a defeat at Winona State 58-40.
Senior guard Jordi Gerking led the way for SCSU in Saturday’s game as she scored fourteen points in the win. First-year forward Jessica Benson added nine rebounds in the win.
The Huskies fell to 6-and-7 on the season with their loss Sunday at Winona State. Senior forward Aaryn Booker was the top scorer in the losing effort with ten points.
The Huskies are now 6-7 overall and are 3-6 in conference play. They are back in action next weekend at Bemidji State and Minnesota-Duluth.
