Archived: Husky Softball Snaps Losing Streak With Huge Sweep

The SCSU softball team snapped a ten-game losing streak with a no-hitter against Bemidji State Sunday afternoon, then scored 13 runs in game two to earn the sweep.

Freshman pitcher Kelly Franks allowed only two baserunners in the game, one on an error in the third and one via walk in the fifth inning. Franks also had eight strikeouts in her first career no-hitter.

Franks’ battery mate Mikayla Hogan took care of the offense for SCSU, going 3-4 with three doubles and two runs batted in.

Huskies head coach Paula U’ren gave the credit to Franks and the players behind her after the game. "Kelly Franks and the defense picked up a no-hitter in the first game (Sunday) which was really fun to be a part of," U’ren said.

The SCSU bats exploded in game two for thirteen runs, a season high. In fact, it is the first time the Huskies scored in the double digits since February 11th.

Hogan matched her game one effort with three hits and a pair of RBI, while Franks picked up the win with an inning of scoreless relief.

SCSU is now 20-26 on the season and 6-12 in NSIC play. Next on the schedule is a trip to Mankato to take on the 11th-ranked Mavericks.
