Inmate Assaults Stearns County Correctional Officer

A Correctional Officer was assaulted by an inmate at the Stearns County Jail last Thursday.

County officials say while correctional officers were locking down inmates after an evening meal, 26-year-old Joshua Peterson would not cooperate with the officers.  Peterson struck an officer in the face with a closed first as the officers were trying to gain control.  Other officers eventually regained control of Peterson and secured him in his cell.

According to Sheriff Steve Soyka, the injured officer was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and then was released.

The case remains under investigation.
