Archived: Investigators Digging At Site of Wetterling Abduction
Investigators are digging at the central Minnesota property near where 11-year-old Jacob Wetterling was abducted at gunpoint nearly 21 years ago.
Aerial footage shown in KTSP-TV shows a backhoe is digging up the ground on the St. Joseph property and piling dirt into a dump truck. The Star Tribune reports that Stearns County officials, an FBI special agent, K-9 teams, and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are all on the scene.
Authorities have said little about the search that began Wednesday in St. Joseph.
Stearns County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Bruce Bechtold says a court order restricts him from discussing the investigation.
Jacob was riding his bike with his brother and a friend in 1989 when a masked man with a gun approached them. The boys said the man took Jacob. There have been no arrests.
