Archived: JIm Graves Responds to Michele Bachmann Swiss Citizenship

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann issued a statement Thursday saying she had sent a letter to the Swiss Consulate asking for withdrawal of her Swiss citizenship. She says she did so because she wants to make it clear that she is and always has been 100 percent committed to the United States.

Bachmann has said she automatically became a dual citizen of the U.S. and Switzerland in 1978 when she married her husband, Marcus, and that her family just recently updated its documents because some of their children wanted dual citizenship.

Bachmann represents Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District and plans to seek re-election following her unsuccessful run for the Republican presidential nomination.

DFL Candidate Jim Graves, who is challenging Michele Bachmann says that earlier this year Michele Bachmann claimed she was Iowan, recently she claimed she was Swiss and today she is an American. Graves stands his ground claiming he has always known where he is from, where he has raised his family and where he built his business all in St. Cloud. Graves thinks that regardless of where Bachmann is from, she certainly isn’t representing the people of the sixth district.
