Archived: Jordan Smith Turns Pro, Signs with Cleveland

His dream finally came true. After just over a week playing in the Cape Cod League, St. Cloud State third baseman Jordan Smith has signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland organization. Smith was drafted in the 9th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Entry Draft on June 7.

The Willmar native leaves St. Cloud after an amazing two-year career with the Huskies. The 6-foot-4 Smith totaled 174 hits and 135 runs-batted-in. He also has the single season records for hits, home runs and RBI.

Smith will report to Cleveland’s minor league team, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The team is based in eastern Ohio and plays in the Class “A” New York-Penn League, which began its season on Friday.
