Archived: KVSC Top 30 (10/12-10/18)

This week, all the happenin’ folks in the indie music scene are converging in the NYC for the big CMJ blowout party, but that won’t stop me from compiling weekly charts here at the KVSC, and what a week it was.

One could call last week’s well-spread musical love an example of the slow, creeping advance of communistical thinking into our psyche, all courtesy of the Communist In Chief, Barack Hussein Obama. If that’s the case, then this week saw the triumph of Good Ol’ American (A-MEHR-ican!) capitalism! This week, the top artists received the lion’s share of the tallies, proving once again that it is only fair and natural for the best of us to dominate the rest of us. You know what we need in this country? A real sense of pride in our work, and pride in our rich people, because if they’re rich, they must deserve it, or why else would our merit-based, free market system allow them to be rich? Right? RIGHT?!*

Notes from the week:

Flight of the Conchords tore up the place, getting a clear plurality of plays en route to the top spot in their first week of action. I know they told me they were freaky, but this just blew me away. Which isn’t to say they don’t deserve it, the album is full of excellent stuff, even the songs we can’t play.

I am also pleased as fruit punch to see Del and Tame One’s album charting so strongly this week. It was a fun listen, but some of the tracks required a few too many edits to make them worth air-play. Like with the Conchords, it made me sad.

Last week, James and the Giant Beard warned me that the Gangialns album was going to be on the way up, but to #3? Now that’s quite a jump. It’s almost enough to make me wonder if the fix was in. Almost 😉

Also pleasing my eyes and ears this week: The Heavy, Fink and Awesome New Republic (imagine that…) as well as Wallpaper, whose time has certainly come.

And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers! And you will know my name is The Chart when I lay my vengeance upon you!
