Archived: KVSC Top 30 (8/31-9/6)

This week, in keeping with the spirit of the Communist (“Not that there’s anything [inherently] wrong with that…”) holiday of Labor Daybor, it seems our DJ’s decided to spread the wealth of recognition to new artists, much as the proletarian revolution will one day take the ill-gotten gains of the oppressive bourgeoisie and give them over to the deserving masses so that we all may be equal and truly free (or something…).

The Mumlers debuted with a splash, coming out on top in their first major week of action, while last week’s leader Apricot Rail fell to number 5. Not to insult the quality of AR, but I’m quite pleased to see Mumlers do so well; “Don’t Throw Me Away” is one of those albums that just brought a smile to my face and added a little bounce to my step, even on the slower, sadder songs. The old-timey groove is undeniable.

ApSci was another of those records that dropped precipitously, which is unfortunate in one sense, but when releases like Joe Henry’s “Blood From Stars” and Yim Yames’ (Jim James’) “Tribute To” are making impacts, it’s somewhat hard to argue too strongly against the shuffles.

Two final things of note: First, Fictionist made it’s long-awaited debut in the KVSC library, and once again, I find myself quite pleased. With a vibe relatable to Semisonic, the Utah-based group will please the ears as it soothes the mind. Second, Solillaquists of Sound makes a late-breaking appearance (again) in the Top 30, marking the close of an unfortunately low-charting run. I may not be much of a hip-hop/rap guy, but I did love SoS’ “No More Heroes”.

That’s all for this week, so here’s the list.

Thank You Underwriters
