Lake Koronis Assembly Grounds Building in Paynesville Damaged In Fire

The Assembly Grounds building in Paynesville was damaged in an electrical fire over the weekend.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was alerted with a call Saturday shortly after 6 a.m. of building fire. It was the Assembly Grounds located on Lake Avenue.

The call came from a Cold Spring man who was ice fishing on Lake Koronis when he noticed the rear of the main lodge of Lake Koronis Assembly Grounds was on fire.

The fire was on the northwest corner of the building and firefighters were able to contain it before it spread to other areas or to other buildings nearby. Officials believe the fire started from a possible electrical short from a large outdoor food cooler unit. Everyone inside the building was evacuated safely.

The Minnesota State Patrol, Paynesville Police, Fire and Rescue, Lake Henry Fire and Rescue, and New London Fire & Rescue assisted at the scene. Officials did not disclose how much the financial damage the fire caused.
