Little Falls Flooding Emergency
Rep. Ron Kresha of Little Falls sent a letter to Gov. Tim Walz Friday requesting an emergency declaration due to extreme flooding at Lake Shamineau in Morrison County. Water levels are recorded 3 feet higher than the ordinary high-water mark.
Kresha says “With freezing temperatures on the way, the situation around Lake Shamineau is sure to cause devastation for homeowners in the area,”
The high-water levels are displacing homeowners, and many are living with damaged and flooded homes, cabins and businesses.
The declaration will give community members access to additional resources to deal with the flooding crisis.
Kresha is currently working with Lake Shamineau’s Lake Improvement District to find funding solutions for the “High Water Project”, which aims to remove water from the lake and bring the lake back to a more manageable water level.
