Archived: Men In Black Take Down MSU-Mankato

Dante Steward rushed for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns and the Huskies rolled to a 31-13 win over rival Minnesota State-Mankato. The win improves the Huskies record to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the NSIC.

Huskies backup quarterback Brad Meade got the start in place of quarterback Phil Klaphake, who was held out of the game as a precautionary measure. Klaphake appeared to injure his leg in the third quarter of last week’s win over Northern State.

Meade played the role of game manager with the Huskies relying heavily on the run, and the junior was 7-12 in the game with 77 yards through the air. He also had a TD pass to Chad Peterson in the game. Most importantly, Meade and the Huskies did not commit a turnover in the game.

The Huskies had over 300 yards in the game on the ground with Stewards 141 yards complimented by 82 from Michael Walker and 79 yards rushing by Brandon Geiss. Geiss left the game in the second half with a hamstring injury and his status for next week is unknown.

St. Cloud State heads to Marshall, MN to take on Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday. The Huskies next home game is October 29th against defending national champion University of Minnesota Duluth.
