Archived: Men’s Hockey Sweeps BSU, Win Streak at 6

A new year continues to be kind to the St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey team. The Huskies have not lost in 2011 and backed by a sweep at Bemidji State this past weekend, the squad has won six straight games. St. Cloud beat the Beavers by scores of 2-1 in overtime Friday, and 5-1 on Saturday from the Sanford Center in Bemidji.

FRIDAY- SCSU 2, BSU 1- OT
Friday’s game saw the teams trade goals in the second period to knot the game at 1-1 and regulation would end in a deadlock. Late in overtime SCSU’s Nic Dowd collected a Jared Festler rebound, and fired a turnaround shot the found the back of the net to give SCSU a 2-1 win with only 28 seconds on the clock.

SATURDAY- SCSU 5, BSU 1
Saturday’s game was nothing but close as SCSU brought out the brooms for the second straight weekend as the Huskies scored the game’s first five goals. David Eddy tallied twice, and Garrett Roe, Cam Reid, and Jordy Christian also scored as SCSU rolled to a 5-1 win and evened their record to five-hundred on the season at 11-11-2.

In the streak, Mike Lee has started every game in goal and only allowed nine goals in the six victories. St. Cloud has notched 23 goals in the winning streak that has pulled them to eighth in the WCHA and only one point out of sixth, which would land them home ice advantage for the WCHA playoffs.

The Huskies are back home this weekend and look to keep their success going as they take on Minnesota State-Mankato from National Hockey Center. Puck drop is slated for 7:07 both Friday and Saturday and you can hear both games right here on 88.1 FM KVSC.
