New Adds, New Skin, No Leaves

What’s the are the new happenings with the new music rotation?

CRX – New Skin: Debut album from this Los Angeles based band led by Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi. The guitar arrangements on this album are unexpectedly pleasing and may remind Strokes fans of their album Angles.

American Wrestlers – Goodbye Terrible Youth
: 2nd release from this now St. Louis, Missouri based band. This project initially began as a lo-fi solo project of Gary McClure. This time around, McClure is joined by a backing band which rounds out the American Wrestlers’ sound and provides for even more powerful power pop tunes.

Sims – More Than Ever: Minneapolis rapper, and Doomtree member, Andrew Sims has returned with his 3rd full-length solo release. This album was produced by fellow Doomtree members Lazerbeak and Paper Tiger as well as Minneapolis based producer ICETEP. More Than Ever came to be after a rough winter for Sims and has turned out to be, in my opinion, his best work. Oh, he also feels the same, “I’m really proud of it; it’s my best work”.

What’s new in New Recurrents?

Slothrust – Everyone Else: These angsty Brooklyn rockers return with their 3rd full-length release. Bandleader Leah Wellbaum provides another dose of sometimes edgy but mostly mildly discomforting vivid imagery in her lyricism on this release. Don’t let that dissuade you from checking this out, these songs kick butt and give a huge sonic nod to the 90’s alternative scene.

Vanishing Twin – Choose Your Own Adventure: Debut album from this London based experimental 5-piece led by Cathy Lucas. They combine odd acoustic instruments with sometimes even more odd, homemade, electronic instruments to form a beautiful and psychedelic sound mixture. Reminiscent to Stereolab and with a similar vocal drone that you would hear from Spiritualized.

Susto – & I’m Fine Today: Named after a real life illness of Latin American origins, Susto has come back with their sophomore album. They blend elements of Americana, Bluegrass, and Folk to create a simply indie album that discussed painful stories with glimmers of hope. The full album comes out on January 13, 2017.
