Archived: Next Step in Future of SCSU Football Takes Place Today at NSIC Meeting

nsic155.jpgThe next step in determining the future of St. Cloud State football is set to take place today. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the league St. Cloud State’s Division II sports play in, requires a football program for membership in the league. Today, at a meeting of NSIC Presidents, St. Cloud State President Earl Potter is asking for permission to waive that requirement.

Potter claimed in a St. Cloud Times article last month that asking for the waiver was required to determine the next step SCSU would take in regards to solving a $500,000 shortcoming in the 2012 budget. Even if the waiver is granted, according to Potter it does not mean that football necessarily be eliminated.

Potter expects a verdict from fellow NSIC Presidents on the waiver at today’s meeting. If in fact that decision is made today, Potter is expected to share the final three proposals in regards to the athletic budget with the St. Cloud community on Tuesday.

KVSC will be monitoring this story as it progresses and will have updates later in the day.
