Archived: No-Wake Zone Signs on Area Lakes
The Stearns County Board of Commissioners made a decision Tuesday on no-wake zone signs on area lakes at a public hearing during a board meeting.
Signs recommending boaters to slow down will be posted on lakes where the Stearns County Sheriff determines high water is causing issues.
Lakeshore owners expressed concern that high water combined with fast boaters were causing their shorelines to erode.
Resort owners also expressed concern that a no-wake ordinance would hurt business.
The Commissioners decided not to adopt a county-wide ordinance, because not all lakes are dealing with flooding problems and violations would be difficult to enforce.
