Archived: Officials Concerned About Drunk Driving over Super Bowl Weekend

Traffic safety officials are concerned about drunk driving over Super Bowl weekend. During Super Bowl weekends 2007 through 2009 there were more than 1800 car crashes in Minnesota, which resulted in five deaths and 28 injuries. Of the five deaths that occurred, two were alcohol related. Sgt. Curt Mowers, of the Minnesota State Patrol says “Due to the extra amount of traffic from Super Bowl parties and the added element of alcohol, we are treating the Super Bowl like other big events or holidays when it comes to educating them about planning ahead and not to drink and drive.” Drivers are being urged to slow down, buckle up, pay attention and drive sober.
