Archived: Organization says Gambling in Bars could Fix Budget Gap
A pair of state organizations will make a stop in St. Cloud to promote an idea they say will help offset Minnesota’s budget deficit. Representatives from Profit Minnesota and the Minnesota Licensed Beverage Association are traveling around the state discussing the launch of an effort that advocates state-regulated gambling in bars and restaurants.
Profit Minnesota says the proposal will raise an estimated $630 million a year, which would help chip away at the estimated $6 billion state budget deficit. Profit Minnesota says the money would also provide up to $230 million a year in charitable donations.
The organizations will make a presentation Tuesday at Howie’s Sports Bar and Grill, on 9th Avenue in downtown St. Cloud at 10:00 am. The public is welcome to attend.
