A pedestrian is recovering after being hit by a van while crossing the street. St. Cloud Police were called to 5th Avenue and 1st Street North around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a pedestrian who was hit in a crosswalk.

A police investigation found that 51-year-old Elizabeth Garcia of St. Cloud was in the crosswalk in a motorized wheelchair when she was struck by a van belonging to City Auto Glass out of the Twin Cities. Police identified the driver as 43-year-old Howard Peter Ramaley of Maple Grove.

Ramaley told police the sun was in his eyes and did not see the victim in the wheelchair until after he had hit her. Garcia was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital for non-life threatening injuries while Ramaley was cited and released for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
