St. Cloud Police would like citizens to be aware of a phone scam that claims you will be receiving a grant from the government. Police say on Friday they were alerted of the scam when a 55 year old St. Cloud man told them he received a call from a male with a Middle Eastern accident asking for his checking account information in order to award him a $7,000 government grant. The suspicious male called from 202-684-6689 which is a number out of Washington DC and referred to the St. Cloud man by his first name and knew his address. Police say you should never give out account information or credit card numbers over the phone to unknown people. If you receive a suspicious phone call, you are urged to call the St. Cloud Police Department at 320-251-1200.
