A routine traffic stop turned into a police chase early Monday. Around 2:30 a.m. a St. Cloud Police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign in downtown St. Cloud.

When the officer turned on his emergency lights, the vehicle accelerated crossing Veteran’s Bridge and down East St. Germain Street. The officer chased the vehicle until it left the city and entered Benton County.

Around 8 a.m., Sauk Rapids police located the vehicle police believe fled the scene. St. Cloud police are investigating the case to identify the driver.
