A man is in custody after allegedly robbing a local St. Cloud business Wednesday night. St. Cloud Police were called to GW Coffee and Tobacco store, located at 21 Wilson Avenue Northeast in St. Cloud just after 6 p.m. The suspect was armed with a handgun and fled the store on foot before officers arrived.

The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit tracked the suspect to a nearby apartment. A police investigation found that the suspect had stopped at the apartment but was given a ride to a different location in Sauk Rapids. Sauk Rapids Police found the suspect and arrested him.

The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Joseph Edward McDermott of Sauk Rapids. McDermott was transported to the Benton County Jail where he is facing charges of aggravated armed robbery.
