Archived: Regional Human Rights Group to Hold First Meeting

The Regional Human Rights Partnership will hold its first meeting this week. The partnership was formed in response to public outcry after a Waite Park man posted anti-Muslim cartoons in various places around St. Cloud last December. The cities of St. Cloud and St. Joseph will participate in the regional partnership. Other central Minnesota cities chose not to spend money on the venture. The human rights partnership includes the mayors of St. Joseph and St. Cloud, along with one council member from each city. They will work to foster healthy relationships among people living in central Minnesota. It is funded mostly through federal dollars, though St. Joseph and St. Cloud are chipping in about $3,000 and $30,000 respectively, according to St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis. The first meeting of the Regional Human Rights Partnership will be held Thursday at 5:00 pm at St. Cloud City Hall.
