Archived: SCSU: 25 Students Sexually Assaulted in the Last Year
25 sexual assaults were reported to the St. Cloud State Women’s Center between the summer of 2009 and the summer of 2010. That’s 7 fewer sexual assaults than last year’s total, but right on the campus average over the last 20 years.
According to the Women’s Center, 21 of the 25 assaults were committed by acquaintances. The other four were committed by strangers. In all 25 assaults, the perpetrators were men. 24 of the victims were women, while one was a man.
The Women’s Center says 15 of the assaults happened at the home of either the victim or the perpetrator. 2 happened at house parties, while 4 happened outside, on a sidewalk or alleyway. 7 of the assaults happened on campus while 17 happened off campus. The victims ranged from 18-27 years old, but most were under 20.
The SCSU Women’s Center says it’s disheartening any time a sexual assault takes place, but it’s a good thing when victims report assaults as opposed to keeping it to themselves.
