St. Cloud State University has officially named a new dean of the SCSU College of Liberal Arts. Mark Springer, who has served has the interim dean for more than a year, was named the permanent dean May 9th. Springer, who is originally from Washington state, has been a member the SCSU faculty for 16 years.

He joined the Music department in 1996, and served as the chair of the Music department from 2002 to 2007. Springer also was the interim associate dean of the College of Fine Arts and Humanities from 2008 to 2010. Springer first became the interim dean in 2010 with the passing of Dean Todd Devries in December 2010.

The College of Liberal Arts is home to 12 academic departments including English, communication studies, ethnic and women’s studies, foreign languages, history, mass communications, philosophy, psychology, sociology, and anthropology.
