Archived: SCSU Football Earns First Place Tie With Win

The Husky football team claimed a share of first place with a 24-17 win over Southwest Minnesota State Saturday in Marshall, MN. The win created a three way tie atop the NSIC with SCSU, Bemidji State and Minnesota-Duluth all 6-1 in division play.

Backup quarterback Brad Meade made his second straight start in relief of injured starter Phil Klaphake. The  junior from Chippewa Falls, WI had a big day, going 12/23 for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns. For comparison, Meade was just 7/12 last week for 77 yards as the Huskies relied on the ground game against Mankato.
Renard Robinson had five catches for 77 yards and a touchdown, and Dante Steward led the ground attack with 98 yards rushing. Tony Kubes, Marvin Matthews and Brad Wignes had interceptions on the other side of the ball for St. Cloud State, who takes on Minnesota-Crookston in a  road game next week.
