Archived: SCSU Planetarium Hosts Transit Of Venus Event
St. Cloud State University’s Planetarium will host a live presentation of the rare astronomical event when Venus moves across the face of the sun on Tuesday, June 5th. The transit of Venus is an occurrence that only happens every 100 years and will not be visible again until 2117.
Telescopes on the roof of the Wick Science Building will broadcast live images of the transit in the planetarium and over the internet. Also being shown will be a live feed from NASA at the Mauna Kea Observatory in Hawaii.
The doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The event will go from 5-8:30 p.m. and St. Cloud State astronomers will be on hand to answer questions and show demonstrations.
Venus will take more than six hours to move across the face of the sun.
