21 of 26 faculty members at St. Cloud State who received potential layoff notices will not be laid off after all. SCSU Interim Associate Provost Dr. John Palmer says the university has rescinded all but five of the layoff notices it sent to probationary faculty, and two of the remaining five could still be rescinded. SCSU was required to issue notices last summer to any faculty members who might be considered for layoffs.

In all, St. Cloud State will have between 65 to 70 fewer faculty members beginning in the fall semester. Palmer says 28 faculty members have accepted early retirement offers, and 37 are leaving due to attrition. The reduction in faculty is one of many steps the university is taking to offset a $13.7 million budget deficit for fiscal year 2012.
