Archived: SCSU Softball Signs 4 Prep Athletes

The St. Cloud State softball team has been busy this week as coach Paula U’Ren has announced the signing of Candace James, Megan Lehnen, Kendra Merritt and Kelly Franks to National Letters of Intent.

Candace James is a Prior Lake, Minnesota native who will be a big boost to the Husky outfield. Playing her prep softball at Prior Lake High school, James has posted a .305 batting average so far in her high school career.

The future of the SCSU outfield continues to take shape with the signing of Meghan Lehnen. A three-time letterwinner for the Burnsville Blaze, Lehnen helped her team win the class 3-A softball championship.

Kendra Merritt signs with the Huskies from Fort Lupton, Colorado and will be a big addition to the Husky pitching staff. This fall in her senior season Merritt has gone 14-8 with a 0.78 earned-run-average.

Another impressive pitcher set to join to the Huskies is Stevens Point Area High School’s Kelly Franks. The right-handed pitcher was 22-2 in her junior season in 2010 with a 0.50 ERA and 183 strikeouts. She also threw an amazing seven no-hitters.

The Huskies open their season on February 18th with the RMAC/NSIC Crossover Tournament in Rochester, Minnesota.
