Archived: SCSU Spilts with #2 North Dakota
After Saint Cloud State’s rally on Friday night came up short in North Dakota, it was the Huskies that held off a North Dakota charge on Saturday to earn a spilt aganist the second ranked team in the nation. When the Huskies took the ice in North Dakota on Saturday, UND had not lost a game at home in 17 straight games but SCSU stopped the streak with a 3-2 victory.
The Huskies fell to UND 4-2 on Friday but rode the back of junior goalie Dan Dunn and his 46 saves to get the spilt. Travis Novak, Ryan Lasch and Craig Gaudet all had goals on the night with Lasch scoring two on the weekend. Although the Huskies went 0-7 on the powerplay and were outshot 48-29, the team battled throughout the game to scratch out a win.
This was the first time the Huskies have won in North Dakota since 2006 and had not beaten a #1 or #2 ranked team since 2007. The spilt with UND puts the Saint Cloud record at 4-4-2 overall with a 3-2-1 mark in the WCHA.
The Huskies continue their play in the conference this weekend when they host the Wisconsin Badgers on Friday and Saturday night. You can listen both nights to the games on KVSC, with the drop of the puck at 7:07 p.m. and the pre-game show starting twenty minutes beforehand.
