Archived: Smith Shines in Pro Debut
It did not take former St. Cloud State baseball player Jordan Smith long to make an impact in the minor leagues. In his debut for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Wednesday night, Smith walked with the bases loaded in the 11th inning to give the home team a 4-3 win over Batavia.
Smith, who had a .457 batting average for SCSU this year and was drafted in the 9th round by Cleveland, went 2-for-5 with two RBI’s in the game. His first ever minor league at-bat resulted in a single.
The Scrappers are located in Niles, Ohio and play in the New York-Penn League, they are the “Single-A” affiliate of Cleveland.
