Archived: St. Cloud Police Advise Against Possible Money Scams
After continued reports of possible money scam letters and e-mails, the St. Cloud Police Department is advising citizens to be aware and not let themselves get taken advantage of.
Many of the scams may ask for small donations to organizations or request citizens to be “secret shoppers,” where a fraudulent money order is received and instructions are included to cash them, send a portion back to the organization, use the money to purchase household products and rate their shopping experience.
Citizens are urged not to disclose bank or credit card information, social security card numbers, or any other sensitive information through mail or telephone. Any suspicious requests can instead be reported to the police department or ignored altogether.
