St. Cloud School District Former Employee Facing Felony Theft Charges

The St. Cloud Area School District has learned that more than $100,000 of student activity funds have been stolen by a former employee over the past two years. The former employee has not been disclosed yet.

Director of Community Engagement and Communications Tami DeLand reports in an email that insurance for the theft will only cover everything but the $2,500 deductible. All student activities accounts are now controlled by a new system through the District Business Services Office.

The office had a fiscal year-end independent audit conducted of student activity accounts when they discovered the discrepancies in account balances. The audit uncovered credible evidence of theft by a former employee.

The investigation is ongoing by the St. Cloud Police Department and charges are pending.
