St. Cloud to Host Panel on Hate Crimes

Local organizers are hosting an event to address the rise in hate crimes in our country.

The St. Cloud Area Regional Human Rights Commission, the Minnesota Department of Human Rights and St. Cloud Pride are co-sponsoring a panel discussion to discuss Dismantling Hate Crimes.

The panel will talk about discrimination and bias, define hate crimes, explain criminal and civil responses and discuss prevention. Some guests include St. Cloud Chief of Police Blair Anderson, Executive Director of the Council on American Islamic Relations Jaylani Hussein and panelists from the FBI and the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota.

The FBI reports nationally there has been a 17 percent increase in the number of hate crime incidents since 2017.

The event is open to the public and will take place on Wednesday, September 18th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., in the Mississippi Room of Great River Regional Library in St. Cloud.
