After dropping steadily for five consecutive months, the unemployment rate in the St. Cloud area jumped significantly in the month of January. According to the state department of employment and economic development, the January unemployment rate for the St. Cloud area was 7.8 percent. That’s up a full percentage point from December. But on the positive side, it’s still .7% less than it was a year ago, in January of 2009.
