A new report reviews the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of States’ actions on the Great Lakes Compact. The National Wildlife Federation released this report examining the current status of the Great Lakes Compact. The Compact is an agreement between the Great Lakes States and Canadian Provinces to protect the waters of the Great Lakes Basin from diversions and excessive water withdrawals. The States and Provinces agreed to implement the Compact by meeting deadlines over a five year period which is now at its halfway point.
