According to St. Cloud Police, 59-year-old Cynthia Backman of Kasato had been driving northbound on Highway 15 when she ran a red light at about 3:30 PM, striking 23-year-old Jack Poepke of Sartell. Poepke had been travelling westbound on Highway 23 when he was struck.  A juvenile passenger in Poepke’s vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

 After colliding with Poepke’s vehicle, Backman’s car spun and struck another vehicle, driven by 38-year-old Sonny Newman of St. Cloud. Newman had been stopped in the left turn lane on Highway 15. 

Backman was issued a citation for semaphore violation.
