Archived: Up to 3 Inches of Snow Friday, Second Storm Sunday-Monday with 4-8 Inch Potential
St. Cloud State University Meteorology professor Bob Weisman says Friday is just the first round of two storms hitting Central Minnesota. Weisman reports the early Friday precipitation has been a mixture of freezing rain and sleet at the start, but will change to all snow shortly after beginning in St. Cloud. Most of this first wave of precipitation could fall as a mixed bag in the Twin Cities.
Weisman says the first wave of precipitation will let up late Friday morning with around an inch of new accumulation in St. Cloud. A second wave will develop in the middle to late Friday afternoon and stay during the evening rush hour. Another 1-2 inches of fluffier snow is possible in the St. Cloud area from the second shot, so we will end up today with around 2-3 inches of snow. Places like Brainerd, Mora, and Hinckley could see as much as 3-4 inches in total, while the Twin Cities will likely end up with 1-2 inches on top of that early ice.
Conditions will quiet down again by midnight Friday, but another storm has the potential to drop 4-8 inches on central Minnesota Sunday night and Monday. You can follow Weisman’s weather updates here.
