Archived: Waite Park Police Believe Good Samaritan’s Story A Lie
A Cold Spring man could be charged with filing a false police report after his story about being attacked turned out to be false.
The man had said he was attacked by two men when he stopped to help the pair change a tire. He said he was attacked with a tire iron and robbed of his wallet and other personal items, and was left unconscious in a ditch.
Waite Park Police Chief Dave Bentrud said the man has admitted making up the crime up, but investigators are unsure why. Bentrud said the man’s injuries were self-inflicted and the scene was staged.
