Archived: Woman Seriously Hurt After Getting Hit in Bar Parking Lot

A 22-year-old woman from Anoka County is seriously hurt after getting hit by a car in the parking lot of a Sauk Rapids bar. It happened just after bar close on Saturday morning at Rollie’s Rednecks and Longnecks, just off highway 23. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office says 32-year-old Justin Batzel of St. Cloud hit a woman with his car, pinning her under the vehicle. When authorities arrived, the victim, 22-year-old Sarah Wierman of St. Francis, was freed from under the car and taken to the St. Cloud Hospital where she is listed in serious condition. Although foul play is not suspected, investigators say Batzel showed signs of intoxication at the time of the accident. He was arrested and taken to the Benton County Jail where he faces charges of criminal vehicular operation.
