Archived: Women’s Basketball Team Loses Coach, Players

When the St. Cloud State women’s basketball team takes the court this winter, they will be without several familiar faces. Assistant coach Carol Thelen is no longer with the program and has been replaced by Megan Vogel, a former player at South Dakota State who will round out Lori Fish’s coaching staff. Thelen had signed a two-year contract prior to the hiring of Fish, and once her contract expired knew the school would be going in a different direction.

Also leaving the Huskies is their leading scorer, Becca Friestleben (pictured) who is transferring to Winona State. She averaged 13 points per game last season and claims she enjoyed her playing time at SCSU, but was not happy in St. Cloud. Backup center Lauren Carew also plans to transfer from St. Cloud for the upcoming season.
